The Deputy Minister for the Interior, Hon. Henry Quartey, on Wednesday, March 13, 2019,   commissioned an ultra-modern fire station for the Ghana National Fire Service on the Spintex Road near Kasapreko Company Limited.
The Station, which was constructed at a cost of Four Hundred Thousand cedis (GHC 400,000.00) by Kasapreko Company Limited as part of it’s cooperate social responsibility and equipped with firefighting equipment and personnel by the Ghana National Fire service is expected to serve the Spintex community and other adjoining communities.
In a speech read on his behalf, the Minister for the Interior emphasized the need for the provision of effective fire cover for communities across the country and the deepening of fire prevention efforts in communities, industries, Markets, shops and offices.
He disclosed that undesired fires continue to cause significant loss of lives and properties in the Country and therefore needs to be given serious attention to mitigate its negative impact on the Country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
The Minister noted that, fire and other emergencies know no boundaries, neither do they respect personalities and could therefore wreak havoc on anyone if care is not taken.
He has therefore tasked fire personnel posted to the facility to be relentless in their efforts to sensitize the Community on fire prevention and Safety measures and also appealed to the citizenry to cooperate with them in that respect.
“Let me hasten to add that Fire Safety is a shared responsibility, without the necessary cooperation from the public, we cannot achieve the desired results”. He stressed.
To this end, the Minister commended the management of Kasapreko Company limited for the facility and appealed to all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Corporate Bodies and Philantropist to emulate the example of Kasapreko Distilleries to enable the Ghana National Fire Service provide efficient Fire Safety and Emergency Response Services to the Nation.
He was optimistic that the opening of the Fire Station in the community would save numerous lives and properties.
Mr. Richard Adjei, managing director of Kasapreko in his remarks indicated that, the idea to build the fire station was conceived in 2017, and he was happy it has finally come into fruition.
Prior to the construction of the Kasapreko Fire Station, the entire Spintex Road Community was being served by the Ledzokuku Krowor Municipal Fire Station thereby putting enormous strain on personnel and equipment due to the  very large  coverage area.
The Kasapreko Fire Station brings the number of Fire stations in the Tema Region to thirteen.
