ENCROACHERS TAKING OVER OUR LANDS, CONCERN UENR STUDENTS CRIES.

ENCROACHERS TAKING OVER OUR LANDS, CONCERN UENR STUDENTS CRIES.

Some concern students of University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) has expressed their concerns over an encroachment of the school lands by some private developers.

In a press statement copied J24newsgh, they alleged a close friend of minister for lands and natural resources is involved in the act.

The statement below:

PRESS STATEMENT ON ENCROACHEMENT OF LANDS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ENERGY AND NATURAL RESOURCES LANDS AT FIAPRE BY PRIVATE DEVELOPERS.
We the concern students of University of Energy and Natural Resources  wishes to express our displeasure at the rate with which lands belonging to the University of Energy and Natural Resources have been encroached upon. These lands have recently been encroached by the Current Fiapre Chief and his cronies, who sell out lands to individuals on the UENR boundary at Ohemaa junction.

The land upon which UENR was established is a government vested   land acquired in the early 50’s, hence cannot be reclaimed by the Fiapre Chief or any individual. The university management has sat aloof watching major encroachment to the already inadequate land for the development of infrastructure of UENR.

A private developer who is known to be a close friend to the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources (Kwaku Asumah Kyerermeh) and his brother the MP for Sunyani East (Kwasi Ameyaw Kyerermeh) encroached the Land of UENR almost two years ago to build a hostel which drew a large uproar within the University community. This unlawful act was covered up by the then Regional Minister and now Minister for Lands and Natural Resources who asked for an amicable settlement. This has now turned into an avenue to create loot and share of UENR lands.

There is a current agenda to re-demarcate the University lands by the Fiapre Chief and the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources in agreement with the University Management without recourse to the University of Energy governing council. The portion of the land in contention was earmarked for the development of a power station by NEDCO, which funding has been secured for such project.

It is really a bad day in Ghana for government vested lands to be sold out to private individuals using intimidation by politician and traditional leaders. We the concern students of UERN will resist any attempt by the University management to condone in this act of impropriety to sell University lands. If we can remember this same strategy was used by Sunyani Municipal Assembly by selling out the government vested land (old abattoir) to construct a filling station at the Nana Bosomah market area which was reveal during the vetting of Madam Ama Kumi Richardson the MCE for Sunyani.
We therefore call on the University council to look into the matter and put a stop to this act of callousness.
Thank you.
