ANKOBEA HENE APPEALS FOR POLICE POST AT AKYEM ABODOM
Nana Baffour Sekyere Bamfo Poku I, newly coronated Ankobea Hene of Akyem Abodom in the Kade Municipality, E/R. has appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr.David Asante Apeatu and the Kade Divisional Police Command for a Police Post in Akyem Abodom township to control crime rate in the area.
He said criminal activities and lawlessness are rampant in the community that has a population of about 6,000.
Nana Baffour Sekyere Bamfo Poku I made the appeal during a coronation ceremony held in his honor to outdoor him as the first person to ascend the Ankobia throne since the existence of the town.
The Chief expressed concern about uncontrolled drug abuse, gambling and stealing among the youth in the community.
" The use of illicit drugs such as tramol and marijuana among the youth is increasing daily and if this development not curbed, would affect the future of the youth," he said.
Nana Ankobeahene disclosed that crime related cases had increased, as well as inter-family conflicts and misunderstandings in the community, saying because there is no nearby police station, one has to travel about nine miles to lodge a complaint at the Kade Municipal Police Command.
He also appealed for the rehabilitation of the deplorable state of the roads from Kade to Akyem Abodom township and nearby towns.
Infrastructure improvement and the welfare of the people of Akyem Abodom, Nana stressed, were paramount among his visions for the area.
" I would, as a matter of urgency, institute a fund-raising plan towards the renovation of Akyem Abodom market by providing them with sheds and other commercial facilities, an upgrading of our current CHIP Compound into a modern health facility with accomodation facilities," he noted.
The Chairman of the occasion Chief Superintendent of Police S.K Kwakye, promised to inform the appropriate authorities to provide police personnel and a police post for the area.
" I am glad Nana Ankobeahene has reiterated the need for this police post and I am ever ready to support for the important project to commence," he said.
